Hazel Velasco-Palacios (she/her) is a PhD Candidate in Rural Sociology and Women’s, Gender, and Sexuality Studies at The Pennsylvania State University. Her research examines how gender, migration, and legal precarity shape healthcare access and caregiving among immigrant farmworker families, with a focus on agricultural and rural contexts.
She holds an MS in Rural Sociology and International Agriculture and Development from Penn State, where her thesis examined participatory, gender-responsive development projects in rural Honduras, and a BS in Socioeconomic Development and Environment from Zamorano University in Honduras. Across her research, Hazel is committed to public-facing and community-engaged scholarship that informs policy, extension, and advocacy related to farmworker health, food systems, and gender equity.
She is from El Salvador and has two cats at home. Her best friend is Cara.
